Option to set start/end dates for project
Jenna Overby
I’ve been using this for years, and I’ve started different projects (journals) for different children, the year, special occasions, etc. It would be nice to be able to specify a start and end date (specifically end) so I don’t have to scroll a lot through all the blank calendar dates to get all the way back to prior years. I’ve done freestyle for some but it’s also frustrating to rearrange when they aren’t added in order.

Monika Stach Jenna Overby The change has been rolled out in January. Did that improve your experience with 1SE?

Vinh Dinh: Thank you so much for following up. I’m very nicely surprised by your message. :)
I updated the app and was going to provide overall comments via email, but in terms of this particular issue, it’s been great since the update. My 2022 project ends on Dec. 31 and I no longer need to scroll. Super helpful and very motivating to start working on my belated 2020 project/journal.
In terms of setting the start date for project, I guess it’s automatic as of when the first snippet is saved?
Thank you again for following up.
Vinh Dinh
Monika Stach: yes that’s right. Our journals don’t really have a start date. It’s just determined by the first snippet you add and we have lots of users that backfill to „catch up“ after they get started. Great to hear the end day fix works for you! ❤️
Monika Stach
Vinh Dinh: yes, very much so Vinh! Thank you also for confirming that the start date is set automatically with the first snippet.
Thanks again for following up and double checking.

Hi Jenna Overby thanks a lot for your feedback! Could you talk more about the start and end date how how not having that makes you scroll through a lot of empty days? I'm not sure I fully understand. If you're up for it, I'd also be happy to have you show me the issue over zoom so we can get it fixed for you: https://calendly.com/productchat/30min
Jenna Overby
Vinh Dinh: sure! So say I have a project from my daughter’s first year, July 2016 to July 2017. To get to the snippets in that project/look at them, I have to scroll from today’s date on the journal view of blocks all the way up to 2017. Does that make sense?
Vinh Dinh
Jenna Overby: Ohhh totally! We usually move to today and then you have to scroll all the way back. We should have some logic that stops moving to "today" when the last second added to the project was long in the past or have a button for you to quickly navigate the the last second added. There's also another feature request to "archive" a project and that might be directionally similar. We'll think of something to address the issue, great feedback thanks!
Jenna Overby
Vinh Dinh: yes exactly! Great, thank you!!

Jenna Overby: hi Jenna. I have the same issue and before it’s resolved by the amazing 1SE team, perhaps my trick will help you out:
When you’re in your journal view (today’s view) with your finger slide the screen to the right. Then on your left margin a list of months will appear. You can navigate much faster through this list and then select from this list the month within a year that you’re looking for.
It’s not ideal especially if you’re going back a few years, but I find it’s a good workaround.
Vinh Dinh
Monika Stach: Right that might help a bit in the meantime.
Jenna Overby: Based on your feedback we're changing the behavior and a journal will now show the last day with content instead of "today" when it's opened. Don't have an ETA yet but it should be coming in one of our next couple of app updates, thanks again for your feedback and for your patience!
Lilian
Vinh Dinh: Why not a "search for date" or "jump to date" function instead?
Lilian
Monika Stach: Is that "workaround" for Android or iOS? Because for me it doesn't work to slide to any side (left or right, doesn't matter) from the journal view and I have Android.
Jenna Overby
Vinh Dinh: that makes sense! Thank you!
Vinh Dinh
Lilian: This quick workaround is only available on iOS.
Lilian
Vinh Dinh: ok. What a pity.
Vinh Dinh
Lilian: Regarding search, there's a feature request for it here: https://feedback.1se.co/feature-request/p/be-able-to-search-a-date. Feel free to add your vote to it. Could you talk more in detail why you're trying to search for a date?
Monika Stach
Vinh Dinh: that’s amazing! Thank you for these great news.
